BASF material reduces weight by 20% for Valeo's new steering column top switch module
It is not just the steering wheel that affects the driving experience, but also the steering column top switch module that connects the steering wheel to the control unit. French automotive supplier Valeo has developed a new steering column top switch module: its housing and rocker are made of BASF's engineering plastics Ultramid® (PA: polyamide) and Ultradur® (PBT: polybutylene terephthalate) ), which is about 20% lighter than the previous product, and has the advantages of excellent surface quality, UV resistance, and excellent physical properties. This module is already used by the BMW Group for rear-wheel drive models from the 3 Series to the 7 Series.

The high prosperity of the polyurethane industry is expected to continue
Global MDI production capacity has grown steadily. In 2016, the production capacity reached 8.59 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.76%. 06-16 The compound annual growth rate of global MDI production capacity is 7.94%. At present, the global MDI production capacity is mainly distributed in China, the United States, Germany, Japan, and South Korea. The main enterprises are Wanhua (2.04 million tons), Covestro (1.71 million tons), BASF (1.71 million tons), Huntsman (1.06 million tons), etc. The production capacity of these four enterprises is 6.52 million tons. It accounts for 76% of the global total production capacity. From a global perspective, some companies have plans to expand production, including 1.54 million tons of production capacity under construction in China and 1.3 million tons of production capacity under construction abroad. Domestic MDI production capacity has grown substantially. The compound annual growth rate of MDI production capacity from 2006 to 2016 was 27.16%, which was higher than the global level (7.94%). In 2016, the domestic MDI production capacity was 3.09 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3%. The domestic production capacity growth rate has stabilized and is already in a stage of steady growth. With the increase of domestic MDI production capacity, the proportion of domestic production capacity in global production capacity is on the rise, accounting for 36% in 2016. As new production capacity is put into operation, it is expected that its proportion will increase.
Humans are desperately making plastics? But they don't know how to dispose of waste plastics
Humans are desperately trying to make plastics, but they don't know how to dispose of them. Humans can't live without plastics in their daily lives, but they talk about the discoloration of waste plastics. Today, the fate of plastic waste is dire, with the results showing that most of the plastic currently ends up in landfills or the natural environment. The largest market for plastics is packaging, and in high- and middle-income countries the proportion of plastics in MSW increased from less than 1% in 1960 to more than 10% in 2005. A new study shows that in the next 30 years, people will produce four times as much plastic waste as they do now.
